If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
– 1 John 1:9
Jesus’s death, burial and resurrection were sufficient and acceptable sacrifices to fully deal with the dark stain of our failures and sin. That is gospel truth that I can stand upon and rejoice in. But while His sacrifice satisfies God’s righteous requirements for all who have sinned, His sacrifice only cleanses that which is brought to Him through confession. You and I cannot cleans ourselves. Only Christ can make us clean. But I have to invite Him—through confession—to do so.
Don’t try to make yourself clean. You can’t do it anyways. Ask for God to forgive and cleans you from all unrighteousness.
