But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
– 1 John 3:17
This is a challenging word for Americans. It is clear that we are a nation that “has this world’s goods.” A brief check on the Global Rich List reveals that an income of just $32,500 puts you in the top 1%. I guess those Occupy Wall Street peeps might need to change their slogan. Not only are we the most wealthy, there is also not a day that goes by that we do not see our fellow brothers and sisters in need.
“God, help me to have a giving heart! Cause Your love to abide in me.”
Be thankful. Don’t shut up your heart from those truly in need.
