Matthew 7
Devotional
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
— Matthew 7:1
This might be one of the most quoted statements of Jesus… by non-believers. If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time, you’ve probably had someone tell you, “Jesus said you’re not supposed to judge! Don’t judge me!” Well, that’s only partly true.
Jesus did say, “Judge not.” But He didn’t stop there. Judgement is not forbidden by Jesus, but unjust, hypocritical judgment is. If ever you do point the finger of judgment upon another individual for their sinful behavior, make sure you’ve first examined yourself in the light of God’s word, and remember, “with what judgment you judge, you will be judged.” If ever there were a verse that would encourage mercy, that’s it.
Today’s Goal
Be merciful in your judgment of others; Jesus sure has been merciful to you.
