Matthew 22
Devotional
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
– Matthew 22:36
From very young, every Jewish child was taught the answer to this great question. One of the first passages a Jewish child would learn and memorize was from Deuteronomy 6. There the Children of Israel were instructed to “teach diligently their children” this great truth: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
Though I am not Jewish, I still think this is a great truth to instruct and teach diligently my children.
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
– Matthew 22:37-40
