Matthew 27
Devotional
Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
– Matthew 27:25
If only they knew their true need for His blood to be upon them and their children? The perfect passover Lamb was standing before them, ready to be lead silently to the slaughter. But in their seething anger they could see neither their desperate need or the satisfaction of their need before their eyes.
Amazingly, a short time later; after Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection and ascension to heaven they would be angry at the preaching of Christ’s disciples, and the same gathering of religious leaders would say to the disciples, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” Didn’t they just say, “His blood be on us, and our children“?
