Luke 1 – The Listening Plan

Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.

I love the highly technical and orderly intro to the Gospel of Luke. Luke is just so greco-roman in his approach, which is why I think this (and the Book of Acts) appeals so much to my western oriented mindset.

The Gospel of Luke is the most detailed of the 4 Gospels. Though it has much in common with the Gospel’s of Matthew and Mark, Luke expands further into the life and ministry of Jesus. About half of this Gospel’s account is exclusive to Luke, especially the final mission of Jesus from Galilee to Jerusalem; a section sometimes referred to as the “travelogue.”

Luke, the only Gentile author of the New Testament, reveals Jesus as the Savior of the whole world… which is exactly what the world needs, even 2,000 years after this work was penned.
