Luke 9
Devotional
Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
– Luke 9:23
Each of the 4 gospel accounts record some form of this powerful word of Christ, but only Luke records that truth of continual, daily self denial. The Apostle Paul (Luke’s close friend, and no doubt his key source) also wrote of the need to “die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31).
With every passing day of walking with Jesus the more I realize the necessity for continual self denial. I look forward, with great expectation, to the day when this fallen nature is gone for good. But until then, I do need to die daily.
