Romans 1
Devotional
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
– Romans 1:16
When I fully grasp that the gospel is the very power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes, then and only then do I lose the shame of that which my flesh sees as a foolish stumbling-block. That’s right; the message of the gospel is both the power of God unto salvation, and an offensive, foolish stumbling-block. My flesh is ashamed at times by the simplicity of the Gospel. It actually happens fairly often; I’m talking with someone about the troubles that their facing, and the Spirit of God is prompting me to share the potent good news, and my flesh shouts, “They need something more TANGIBLE!”
Though I am a pastor, I wrestle with the same shame in my flesh that you do. So I have to remind myself, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.”
