1 Corinthians 2
Devotional
For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
– 1 Corinthians 2:2
Though he was undeniably brilliant, Paul’s message was relatively simplistic. Causing some, in fact, to look down upon him as something of a simpleton. Of course, that was not the case. Books like Romans continue, 2,000 years later, to stand as testament to his intellectual facility. But Paul never let his great mind cloud the simplicity of the Gospel message.
This is such an important truth to grasp. Especially for preachers. The temptation for many communicators is to try to sound brilliant and profound. But in so doing the simple Gospel can be mired by confusing jargon and rhetoric. Any idiot can make something difficult to understand. It takes true genius, and humility, to be thought a fool so that the simplicity of the Gospel can shine through.
