It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife!
– 1 Corinthians 5:1
There were some serious problems in the Corinthian church! Sin so shameful it would make non-Christians blush. And while it might be easy to point the finger of judgment at the Christians at Corinth, in so many ways we are no different.
At the end of the day we are all in desperate need of God’s transforming power in our lives. Additionally though, as 1 Corinthians 5 makes very clear, we cannot turn a blind eye to blatant, unrepentant sin within our churches. Such things must be removed; forcefully at times. Or, “do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?”
