For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

This verse is a favorite of many. It is a potent reminder of the power and effectiveness of the Scriptures.
There is a growing debate in our nation surrounding the Bible and it’s place in modern life. This debate has been going for many years, but it seems to intensify with each passing day. Today our culture is raging against the veracity of the Bible. “How could you possibly believe and hold to an ancient work such as the Bible, which is in such clear opposition to those things that our culture has now determined are right, true, acceptable, and normal?” This is the (loud) argument of our day.
Our culture says same-sex marriage is a valid union for consenting adults. The Scriptures say otherwise. The culture says any and all sexual expression is permissible for consenting adults. The Scriptures say otherwise. The culture says abortion on demand and no-fault divorce are acceptable and right. The Scriptures say otherwise. The culture says that gender is a meaningless construct of society. The Scriptures say otherwise. The culture says, “We don’t like the Bible, it doesn’t fit within our modern life.” And in one sense, that’s true. The Bible doesn’t fit with the lifestyles of many moderns, because the living and powerful Word of God cuts deep, exposing the lostness and depravity of our fallen and sinful hearts.
Once again the Bible is proven true… it is living and powerful and sharp, and it does cut deep, sometimes in a very painful way.
