James 2
Devotional
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
– James 2:10
It is unfortunately common for me as a pastor to interact with well meaning (and often newer to the faith) Christians who are seeking to become more righteous by the keeping of the Old Covenant commands. While the initial motivations are often genuine, the aim is ultimately off. The Old Covenant could never make one righteous. If it could then there would have been no need for a New Covenant in Christ. But what the Old Covenant does do (very effectively) is reveal our utter sinfulness. If you keep the whole law and fail in one point, you are guilty of all.
The law is our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ!
