James 5
Devotional
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
– James 5:17-18
I think I often mentally acknowledge that prayer is necessary and important, but practically it is easy for me to doubt it’s power. Additionally, I tend to exalt the characters of the Bible to a super-human/superhero stature, by which I find myself doubting that I could ever see God move as they did. For these reasons I am grateful for the reminder James givers.
Elijah was like me and you. But Elijah trusted in God and diligently sought Him for power, provision and protection, and his persistent prayers availed much.
