“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

– Revelation 21:4

We’ve lost some dear friends this year. Looking forward to 2017 I’m sure there will be some additional unexpected and difficult losses. The world we live in is dreadfully broken. War, disease, terrorism and immorality abound. Sorrow, tears, pain and death are a daily reality.

My heart longs for the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4. I am deeply desirous of the day that the Lord wipes away every tear; when He once and for all deals with death, sorrow, crying and pain.

And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. … And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

– Revelation 20:12 & 15

Earlier this year I read a book called “Imagine Heaven” which compares actual near death experiences (NDE’s) to what the Bible says about death and heaven. One of the amazing things experienced by many who describe near death events is an encounter with a robed and bearded man  who holds a book from which they undergo a life review of their works.

The Bible is clear, our works are being recorded in heaven. Thankfully I know that my name is written in the Book of Life. I pray yours is too.

He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

– Revelation 19:13

We were first introduced to “The Word of God” in the opening words of John’s Gospel. The Word of God is the most perfect revelation of God. He is God made manifest. He is Jesus.

Revelation 19 presents us with a view of Jesus not often considered. Jesus looks like one just returning from a bloody battle. He is wearing an outer robe that is blood drenched, because He has been executing the wrath and vengeance of God upon all ungodliness upon the earth.

This is a shocking and sobering revelation of Jesus. One that is sometimes needed for those who’s complacency has lulled them to sleep.

– Revelation 17:1

A day of judgment upon the corrupt systems of this world will one day come. Although the exact details of this judgment are veiled in metaphor and symbolism, the day will come and be complete. The injustices of this wicked world will be subjected to the justice of Almighty God.

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.”

– Revelation 16:1

God’s wrath is now poured out upon the earth. One after another, seven angels carry forth bowls of His wrath, and at His command they pour them out. All of this will happen, just as the Apostle Paul foretold: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.”

They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:

“Great and marvelous are Your works,
Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are Your ways,
O King of the saints!
Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy.
For all nations shall come and worship before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested.”

– Revelation 15:3-4

Here again we are presented with a record of another glorious worship service in heaven. A victorious company of saints stand before the Lord to praise His great and marvelous works, His true and just ways and His holiness, even in His judgments.

Revelation 14

Click For Today’s Audio

Devotional

And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.”

– Revelation 14:15

And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.”

– Revelation 14:18

There are two separate and distinct harvests in Revelation 14. The harvest of the wheat, by “Him who sat on the cloud” (Jesus) and another of the grapes by an angel with a sharp sickle. The grapes—a metaphor for (wicked) people in Revelation 14—are carried away unto wrath. The wheat—also a metaphor for (apparently righteous) people—are seemingly carried up unto the One seated upon the cloud.

There are differing interpretations of this passage (and virtually every other passage in Revelation), but this seems to be a rapture event in Revelation. But there seem to be two different raptures. One unto heaven, another to wrath.

Make sure you’re found among the wheat when the reaper comes!
