Matthew 1
Devotional
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
– Matthew 1:23
Happy New Year!
As we come to our first weekday of the new year, we return to the opening chapter of the New Testament and begin our journey from Matthew to Revelation again. I hope that you’ll follow with us as we grow in our faith by hearing the Word of God together in 2017.
Matthew 1 opens with a genealogy of our Lord and a simple reminder in one word, quoted from the Prophet Isaiah. Jesus has an earthly genealogy, recorded here and again in Luke 3, but we must never forget that He is Immanuel. He is God with us. He was not merely a man, but God in human flesh. Therefore He has the ability, as God, to forgive sin and save us from death.
