In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
– Matthew 3:1-2
The message of John the Baptist was simple, but important. As he prepared the way for the coming of the Christ he cried, “Repent!” Jesus, as we’ll see tomorrow in chapter 4, will preach the same simple message of repentance. He would commission His disciples to do the same (Luke 24:47), and that’s exactly what they would ultimately do (Acts 2:38). The message of John; the message of Jesus; the message of the early apostles must be the message we preach too.
