Matthew 27
Devotional
Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.
– Matthew 27:13-14
I imagine that Pontus Pilate had presided over more than a few such proceedings. He’d seen his share of condemned men and he had no doubt heard every possible explanation and excuse from them. But this Jesus, whom Pilate knew to be innocent, said nothing in defense. That he “marveled greatly” is certainly a literary understatement.
