Luke 23
Devotional
Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them. But they shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”
– Luke 23:20-21
The passion week celebration is nearly upon us. This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday and the following week will be the celebrations of Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. Appropriately we come to the same period of time in Luke’s Gospel.
It doesn’t matter how many times I read this section of the Gospels, I am always struck by the fact that Pilate wanted “to release Jesus.” He looked for a way to appease the crowed, but they would not be appeased by anything but His death. “Crucify Him, crucify Him!” They wanted Him dead.
Two thousand years later our culture still wants to get rid of Jesus.
