Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.
– 1 Corinthians 4:2
Over the last 18 years of ministry I’ve had a dozen or more men approach me with a desire to “be in the ministry” and “do what I do.” As they ask me how they too can serve as a minister, my response to every one has always been the same. “Be here next Sunday morning at 6:30 am.” Maybe a half dozen of them have done so. But in almost 20 years of ministry I’ve seen only 1 follow through for the long haul. And now he is a pastoral candidate in our ministry.
I’m looking for 1 primary characteristic in a minister. Are they faithful? Availability, dependability and reliability always trump ability, because it is required of stewards that one be found faithful. I guess I’ve at lest found “one.”
