2 Timothy 3
Devotional
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
– 2 Timothy 3:16-17
These two verses contain some of the most important truths of Scripture. Truths surrounding the nature and purpose of the Word of God. The Scriptures are divinely inspired and demonstrably useful. Their usefulness is evident in four distinct and necessary ways: doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness.
God’s word teaches us what is right and wrong (doctrine). By establishing the perfect plumb line of righteousness, the Scriptures then expose our crookedness (reproof). But thankfully, the Scriptures do not leave us in our wrecked and wretched state, they direct us in the right way we should go (correction), and then help us to maintain our heading once there (instruction in righteousness). And all of this so that the child of God would be mature and wholly equipped for the God works that God created beforehand that we should walk in.
