You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

– James 5:8

James began his letter with a word on patience and now he returns to the theme again.

It’s been said “patience is a virtue,” and I’m sure that’s true. But me, I’m often caught up in the vice restless, irritable impatience. So I’ve discovered that in my own strength, I’m not going to fulfill the opening exhortation of James 5:8.

That being the case, I’m grateful that one of the evidences of God’s Spirit working in me (i.e. the Fruit of the Spirit) is patience. So I’ve learned (and am continuing to learn daily) the essential prayer, “God, give me Your patience in this station.”
