In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

– Matthew 3:1-2

John the Baptist’s message was simple, clear and action oriented. It can be summed up in one word, “Repent!”

The great revival expert, J. Edwin Orr preached a spectacular message (many times) called “The First Word of the Gospel” (check it out here). I’m sure you might expect, it’s all about the word “Repent!” It was the first word of John’s Message. We’ll see in Matthew 4 that it will be the first word of Jesus as well. It pops up many times elsewhere too.

The Gospel message is a call to action. And the simple action is one of turning from/turning to. Turning from your sin and turning to Christ!
