Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

– Luke 23:8

Regrettably, I can sometimes be rather Herodian in my expectations of Jesus. I’ll confess, there have been many times that I’ve been unsatisfied with the simplicity of Christ’s abiding presence, desiring for something more flashy and sensational.

Jesus is not my minstrel. He’s my master. And when I lose sight of this, things get sideways very quickly.
