“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
– Acts 7:51
Under the “How to Win Friends and Influence People” paradigm, I think this is somewhere near the bottom of the list. But Stephen wasn’t seeking friends, he was preaching the Gospel. The same Gospel that is an offense to those who are perishing.
I’ve always been struck by this passage when I remind myself that one of the hearers that was cut to the heart by Stephen’s words was Saul of Tarsus.
