1 Corinthians 1
Devotional
For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
– 1 Corinthians 1:22-24
I know that it is true that the message of the Cross is the power and wisdom of God made manifest. But quite frankly I am often tempted to think that I need something more than His wisdom and power.
The message of the cross was foolish to the intelligentsia of Paul’s day; it is foolish to the highbrow thinkers of ours. Its simplicity was a stumbling block to the committed religionists twenty centuries ago, and it continues to be so today. But the simple Gospel of Christ has powerfully transformed individuals and empires for the last 2,000 years, therefore we ought not hold back the message of the cross.
