Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
– 1 Corinthians 10:11
It’s been said that Biblical literacy is at an all time low in our day and place (in the West). I’m not sure if that’s true, but in many ways it certainly feels that way. It is rare to find anyone who has much knowledge of the Bible, especially the Old Testament. Even with a lot of Church-goers, they haven’t spent much time considering the first two-thirds of the Bible. But in this neglect there is a great loss.
All of the great history, poetry, and prophecy of the Old Testament was written four our instruction and admonition. The things contained in Genesis to Malachi happened as types, symbols, and examples for us. That means, they truly are applicable, even for those living in the 21st-century.
