And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many.

– Mark 14:24

Jesus was in complete control. He knew exactly what was awaiting Him, and He knew exactly why He was about to suffer. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). No one took His life from Him. He laid it down of His own accord. He had the power to lay it down, and the power to take it up again (John 10:18). Therefore He could say, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many.”
