When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

– Mark 2:5

In the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, the LORD said to Samuel, “The LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Mark 2:5 is a New Testament reminder of this great truth.

Yes, the man brought to Jesus at the open of Mark 2 was in need of a physical healing, but the condition of his heart was of a bigger concern to Jesus. Therefore Jesus said, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
