Devotional

While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”

– Mark 5:35

I cannot even begin to imagine the devastation and despair that this message would have brought to the ruler of the synagogue. He had sought the Lord and bid Him to come to His home. He believe that Jesus could heal his sick and dying daughter. But then a distraction had come and hindered the Healer from a timely arrival. “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” Each word was no doubt like a blow striking deep.

The obvious implication of the messenger was one of hopelessness. But the situation was not hopeless. The seemingly hopeless situation was a setup for God’s power and glory to be revealed.

I’m not saying that every despair producing circumstance in this fallen world will be undone by God’s power, but every one of them is and opportunity for God’s power and glory to be revealed.
