Devotional
He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.
– Mark 7:9
How much of a shock must these words have been to the Pharisees and scribes—to whom they were spoken—and to the disciples and general people that must have heard them? The Pharisees and scribes were honored in the Jewish world of the first century. They were committed and ardent followers of the law, and the traditions. But, as can so easily be the case, they had wrongly exalted their traditions to a level God had never intended.
