Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
– Matthew 26:38
We need to have the full picture of Christ’s nature, as we read and study the Gospels. Jesus is fully God, but He was fully man, too. In His deity we see Him raise the dead, fead the multitudes, walk on water, cast out demons and heal the sick. But in His humanity we seem him exceedingly sorrowful and distressed in the garden of Gethsemane. Don’t miss the humanity of Christ. Jesus, “being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:6-8).
