Luke 12
Devotional
And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
– Luke 12:15
I was stopped dead in my tracks at this verse this week, as it is such a necessary word for our culture, for such a time as this. We are bombarded continually with a message that appeals to the basest instincts of our fallen, covetous nature. “I need more, and more, and more! If I am going to have abundance of life, then I need abundance of possessions.” This is the lie of our cultural moment, and my flesh is so easily tempted to believe it.
“God, help us to beware of covetousness!”
