And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.”
– John 11:49-50
Today is ‘Good Friday.’ The day we remember Jesus’ death was necessary. Caiaphas could not have imagined, when he uttered these words, just how massively true they were. It was expedient that the one man, Jesus, should die for us. Of course, that’s not the context in which Caiaphas spoke these words. But it is true nonetheless.
