Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

– John 18:14

As Jesus hung upon the cross, He would intercede on behalf of those crucifying Him, saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” No doubt, Caiaphas did not know what he was leading the Jews to do, or the implications of their actions. Nor did he realize the weight of the words he spoke. Yes, he spoke them in a different context, but when it all came down to it, he was correct, it would be good if one man died for the people. And that’s exactly what Jesus would do.
