If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

– Romans 12:18

Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9). As the children of God, we should—as much as depends upon us—seek peace and pursue it.

Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

– Romans 11:5

By God’s grace there is a remnant, in accordance with His prophetic promise. There are those, of the seed of Abraham (that is to say, Jews), that have received the Grace of God in Jesus. Would to God that many more would believe!

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.

– Romans 10:1

Who, in your life, do you pray for to come to Christ? Who would you desire would be saved? A son, or daughter? A brother, sister, aunt, uncle, or parent? Perhaps a co-worker, or neighbor? Have you committed to consistently pray for their salvation? Have you asked God to open their ears and heart to the Gospel? Have you shared the Gospel with them or invited them to church?

Paul’s heart’s desire and prayer was for the salvation of the lost. And his desire and prayer compelled him to act with tenacity in making the Gospel known. His example is one we ought to follow.

For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,

– Romans 9:3

This is truly a profound statement. For Paul so loved his countrymen (i.e. the Jewish people), that he could wish himself damned that they might be saved. I can honestly say that I cannot personally comprehend Paul’s mindset, in this. I can say with certainty that I desire those whom I love to be saved, but to wish myself damned for their salvation … I would not.

The obvious assumption is to think of this as hyperbole from Paul. But when you consider they way in which he risked his life time and again to see the Gospel carried to unbelievers, you realize he was fully committed to this end. Theologically speaking, Paul could not trade his salvation for the salvation of others. But practically speaking, he was willing to lay down his life that they might hear, know, and believe the Gospel.

May God grant that we also have the same passion for the salvation of the lost. Could you imagine how different the evangelization of the world might be if even a fraction of God’s people followed Paul’s pattern?

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

– Romans 8:15

It is so important that the Christian recognize, and fully understand, the nature of the relationship with have with God, in Christ. In his first epistle, the Apostle John writes, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God.” According to God’s great love, we are joined to Him as His children. We have a wholly new identity in Christ.

We are not striving so that one day we might be called the children of God. We are now, by the love of God, through the Gospel of grace, the adopted sons and daughters of God. We have received the Spirit of adoption where by we cry out to God as “Abba, Father.” For all intents and purposes, this is the Hebrew equivalent of “daddy.”

For this reason Christians routinely say, “I don’t have a religion, I have a relationship.”

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

– Romans 7:24

I am so grateful that there is a good answer to this important question. Our deliverance from this body of death is “through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:25).

knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

– Romans 6:6

By the grace and power of God in the Gospel, we have been rescued from sin’s punishment (justification), power (sanctification), and ultimately its presence (glorification). The realty of salvation is that we no longer need to remain shackled as slaves of sin. We no longer need to be under its power.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I’ve had the privilege of ministering in countries all over the world. I’ve taught many messages and classes with translators by my side. One thing becomes very clear to you when you work with a translator in that way … some things are lost in translation.

God, through the Prophets declared His love to His people (Jeremiah 31:3, for example). But this is one such message that could be lost in translation. Therefore, Jesus came to personally show us exactly what He meant when He said, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
