Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?
– 1 Corinthians 5:6
Two thousand years ago, the Christians at Corinth rejoiced over their willingness to allow an openly sinful person to remain within their fellowship. Apparently they believed themselves to be tolerant, gracious, and accepting. But Paul (and no doubt the Lord) was not pleased.
It is true, we should accept sinners as they are, hoping for their repentance, faith, and salvation. But we ought not allow an openly sinning, unrepentant brother or sister to remain within the fellowship of the Church.
