1 Timothy 3
Devotional
Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
– 1 Timothy 3:7
It is a qualification for leadership within the Church, that we have a good testimony (i.e., reputation) with those who are both inside and outside the church.
If asked apart from your knowledge, what would the people in your life say about your character? Would they say, “He (or she) is kind, self-controlled, humble, joyful, and loving?” Or would they say, “He is kind of a jerk, mostly rude, and irritable?” It is good to have a testimony you share with others—that is, a “I once was lost, but now I’m saved” story—but it is also necessary that there be a good testimony about you, from others.
