And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

Why did Jesus have to suffer and die on the cross? Because the law required the shedding of blood for the remission and purification of sin. Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirement of the law, to make unrighteous sinners like us, righteous before a holy God.
