The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.

– Revelation 1:1-2

As we finish this year, and finish our reading (listening) through the New Testament, with the Book of Revelation, don’t miss Jesus! This book is the Revelation of Jesus Christ in the fullness of His majesty. As we consider the 22 chapters of this great book, look for the glory of Christ.

Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

– Jude 2

On this Thanksgiving Day, may God’s mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you, too. And may you have the opportunity today to bless God, by praising His name and giving thanks, publicly with your family and friends.

Rejoice in the Lord always!

And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.

– 2 John 1:5

Just as with our text yesterday in 1 John 5, we have a tendency of adding layers to the simplicity we find in Christ. Once again we are reminded here of the simple importance of the commandment we’ve had from the beginning: “that we love one another.” It really is that simple.

That it is simple, doesn’t mean that it is easy. “God give us the ability and the grace to love one another as you have loved us!”

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

– 1 John 5:12

Jesus came into the world to rescue us from sin and death. He came into the world to save sinners. He came to receive a bride. And whoever has the son has life. It truly is as simple as that. We can add additional layers, but all of them are superfluous.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

– 1 John 4:10

How do we know the love of God? He demonstrated it for us (Romans 5:8).

For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,

– 1 John 3:11

The message is simple. It’s not easy, but it is simple.

God help us to love one another, as He has loved us!

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

– 1 John 2:15-16

These are weighty words from the Apostle John. The exhortation is stern, and the reasoning clear. Do not love this world. Do not be devoted to the sinful passions of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life. These things are not of God. Do not be devoted to them, but devote yourself instead to Him!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

– 1 John 1:9

Have you confessed your sins and received the forgiving, cleansing grace of Christ? As King David exclaimed, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity” (Psalm 32:1-2).

knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

– 2 Peter 3:3-4

You may not hold to a futurist position on Bible prophecy. You might see all prophetic passages as already fulfilled. Whatever your position, verses like these sure to ring true to the times in which we are living. We certainly see scoffers walking according to their sinful passions, mockingly questioning the return of Christ. Passages like this are just the sort of thing that make futurists say, “We’re living in the last days.”
