Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

– Revelation 21:1

It is the conviction of many Bible teachers—myself included—that this is picturing the future. Thus, God’s ultimate plan is a new heaven and new earth. There, “God will wipe away every tear” and “there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying” and “no more pain” (Rev. 21:4). This reality should fill our hearts with great joy!

And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

– Revelation 20:15

This verse stands as a sobering reminder of the importance of the gospel. Remember, the Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Merry Christmas

May the Lord bless you and your family as you celebrate today! On this Christmas Day, I find the opening verse of Revelation 19 to be so fitting…

After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!

– Revelation 19:1

Christmas is the celebration of the advent of Christ, which is also the celebration of the advent of the salvation, glory, honor, and power of our Lord.

And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

– Revelation 18:4

In some way—whether small or great—the people of God are called to be separate from the systems and structures of the world. We are in the world, but not of it, and in some clear we we ought to be distinct. This is a challenging reality, and one that causes a very real tension for the disciple of Christ.

And I heard another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.”

– Revelation 16:7

Though the judgments of Revelation can be startling, when we see God bring them to pass we too will declare, “True and righteous are Your judgments. More than three thousand years ago, Abraham questioned, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25). When all is said and done, we will ultimately see that He will be righteous in His judgments.

They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
“Great and marvelous are Your works,
Lord God Almighty!
Just and true are Your ways,
O King of the saints!
Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy.
For all nations shall come and worship before You,
For Your judgments have been manifested.”

– Revelation 15:3-4

It would probably not be a bad idea to commit these words to memory. They may come in handy at a worship service in the future.

So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.

– Revelation 14:19-20

This gruesome picture of God’s wrath is the future for those that blaspheme and rebel against God.
