Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

– Ephesians 6:10

This is a great verse to end a week with. Going into the weekend and looking forward to the beginning of a new month (and soon, a new season), it is good to be reminded to “be strong in the Lord.”

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

– Ephesians 5:1-2

If you will be an imitator of God, then you will most certainly “walk in love.” For there is no greater expression of one walking in love, than the way in which God, in Christ, has related to us.

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

– Ephesians 4:32

This is one of the verses we often rehearse with our four, young kids. My prayer is that it not only lingers in their minds, but also forms their hearts. May it also find its way into your mind and heart, and transform the way you interact with others.

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height–to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

– Ephesians 3:14-19

The Apostle Paul, the king of the run-on sentence, here writes one of his great prayers for the church. If ever you are at a loss as to what to pray for another brother or sister in Christ, this is a great prayer to consider. Certainly may prayer for you would be that you also would “be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

– Ephesians 2:13

In and by Jesus Christ we have been reconciled to God. On account of sin we were far from, and at enmity with Him. But by Christ (who is our peace) the enmity has been done away with, and we are no longer strangers, but children. If there is anything praise worthy, this is most certainly it.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

– Ephesians 1:3

Praise be to God who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. This is an already accomplished blessing. It is not something we are wishfully hoping for. It is the reality you have been born into as a child of God. Rejoice in the riches you have in Christ, and use them without hesitation for His glory.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

– Ephesians 6:10

We have no might or power in and of our selves wherein we might stand. But in and by the power of His might we can, in strength, confront any and all foes from a position of victory.

See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

– Ephesians 5:15-16

We have no time to waste. We’ve wasted enough time walking in the foolish futility of our flesh. Now is the time to redeem what remains. Now is the time to walk in the wisdom given us by God’s grace.

and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

— Ephesians 4:23

This renewing happens by “the washing of the water, by the word.” It is by the transforming power of God’s Word, and the working of the Holy Spirit. And as it is accomplished we are blessed to be able to “prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God,” in and through our lives lived for His namesake.

in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.

– Ephesians 3:12

According the finished work of Christ, we have boldness, and access with confidence through faith in Him. This is powerful and amazing.

The author of the book of Hebrews wrote that we can, “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” We have access through Jesus to come before God with absolute assurance that we can appear before Him. Our sin is dealt with. It’s wholly and completely forgiven. There is no more condemnation. There is no fear. There is no shame. It is done away with.
